Academician Alexios Panagopoulos: I raise my voice in defense of the basic human rights of those imprisoned in Kosovo and Metohija!
Support for our brothers imprisoned in Kosovo and Metohija also comes from the fraternal Greek people, from Academician Alexios Panagopoulos.
"GOD IS NOT IN POWER BUT IN JUSTICE"
Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky
On the occasion of the arrest of three citizens of Montenegro, at a celebration in the Visoki Dečani Monastery, Rajko Krivokapić, Dragutin Lalatović and Marinko Jovanović, members of the Orthodox Brotherhood of Orthodox Youth "Paths of Joy in the Land of the Living", Academician Alexios Panagopoulos the Younger, Academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Academician of the International Slavic Academy, triple doctor, doctor of law and political sciences, doctor of bioethics and doctor of theology, whose mentor was the late Metropolitan Amfilohije Radović, a great friend of the Serbian people.
The text regarding the unfortunate events of the arrest of three young men from Montenegro in the Visoki Dečani monastery, by Academician Alexios Panagopoulos, is reproduced in full:
"At a time when rights and freedoms are guaranteed by numerous conventions, we are faced with an increasingly frequent disregard for fundamental human rights and freedoms. The latest silent event that has resonated with us in Greece and other countries of the European Union is the imprisonment of three young men from the Orthodox Youth Brotherhood "Paths of Joy in the Land of the Living" from Nikšić, at a celebration in the monastery in Visoki Dečani for the feast of Saint King Stephen of Dečani.
As a student at the Orthodox Faculty of Theology, I have been to Kosovo and Metohija many times over the past 40 years and this century with my professors Metropolitan Amfilohije and Bishop Atanasije, and later during the difficult years of suffering of the brotherly Serbian people.
In addition to the numerous soldiers deployed in KFOR units, there are also soldiers from the Greek army, who guard the holy places in Kosovo and Metohija together with other soldiers from other European Union countries.
Kosovo and Metohija is an area where many monasteries and churches of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Diocese of Raška-Prizren are located, which are under UNESCO protection. I have been friends with Bishop Teodosije for many years and we were classmates at the Faculty of Theology.
In Kosovo and Metohija, I have many friends whom I always enjoy visiting, such as the abbot of the Visoki Dečani monastery, Archimandrite Sava, and the abbot of the Zočište monastery, Archimandrite Stefan.
I know very well what Kosovo and Metohija mean to every Serb, and especially to the citizens of Montenegro. Their king and lord of Montenegro, Nikola Petrović Njegoš, liberated Metohija, and it then belonged to the Kingdom of Montenegro.
In the letter of the imprisoned brothers from Montenegro, which they wrote from prison in Kosovo, and which was heard by all of Christian Europe, they courageously and resolutely wrote "where better to die than in Kosovo!", which shows both their faith and their truthfulness.
When we know that these imprisoned brothers of ours, with their humane organization, the Brotherhood of Orthodox Youth “Paths of Joy in the Land of the Living”, which they founded with the blessing and support of the late Metropolitan Amphilochius, visited numerous holy places from Montenegro, through Greece, Aegina, Thessaloniki, Mount Athos to the Holy Land and Jerusalem, we can only marvel at their faith and love and confirm their nobility, humanity and heroism.
As a doctor of law and political sciences and a full academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and several other world academies, as a doctor of theological sciences, and a doctor of bioethics, as the former rector of the famous Athoniada school on Mount Athos, I raise my voice in defense of the basic human rights of those imprisoned in the prisons of Podujevo and Kosovska Mitrovica, Rajko Krivokapić, Dragutin Lalatović and Marinko Jovanović. I ask on this occasion all people of good will to raise their voice of reason in support of the innocent prisoners in Kosovo and Metohija, with that great word that "God is not in power but in justice, which was said by the Holy and pious Prince Alexander Nevsky."
On the name day of my spiritual father and professor and mentor, the blessedly deceased Metropolitan Amphilochius
