Calendar for April 26 Holy Martyr Thomais
Born in Alexandria of honorable parents; taught piety from a young age and at the age of fifteen married to a honorable husband. But her father-in-law was a wicked old man, and in the absence of his son attacked his daughter-in-law and wanted to dishonor her. Thomais was frightened and in fear admonished her father-in-law about the law of God, and escaped from his hands. After a long struggle, her father-in-law took out a knife and slaughtered her daughter-in-law, cutting her in two. At that moment, God's punishment overtook him, he was instantly blinded and could not find a door to get out, but was caught there in the chamber and handed over to the court, which sentenced him to death. Thus Thomais suffered for the commandment of God about marital fidelity and purity. It happened later that many, tormented by lustful passion, offered prayers to Saint Thomas and received strong help from her. The great ascetic Daniel transferred her relics to Skete, and there laid them in the cemetery of the monks. Saint Thomas suffered in the year 476.
