Calendar for April 4th - Priest-martyr Vasilije, presbyter of Ankir
Under the emperor Constantius, he suffered a lot from the Arians. And at that time he was known as a great zealot of Orthodoxy and a true shepherd of the flock of letters in Ankara. And when Julian the Apostate came to the throne and began to persecute Christians, Vasilije publicly distorted this new wickedness and strengthened his people in their faith. That's why he would be thrown into prison.
So when Emperor Julian came to Ankyra, Vasilije was brought before the emperor, and the emperor began to persuade him to leave the faith of Christ, promising him honors and riches. Then Vasilije answered the king: "I believe in my Christ, whom you renounced, and who gave you this earthly kingdom, but it will soon be taken from you." Aren't you ashamed of the altar, under which you saved yourself from death as an eight-year-old boy, when they wanted to kill you?...
That is why this temporal kingdom will soon be taken away from you, and your body will not be buried, when you expel your soul in angry torments". - Julian got angry and ordered that seven straps of leather be torn from Vasili's body every day. And so the torturers did for several days. When Vasilije appeared before the emperor again, he took one of his own kayesh and threw it in Juliana's face, shouting: "Take it, Juliana, and eat it, if such a dish is sweet to you, and to me Christ is life!"
- That event was announced in the town, and the emperor removed secretly from Ankyra to Antioch out of shame. Basil continued to be tortured with a red-hot iron until he surrendered his soul to the Lord, for whom he suffered a lot in 363.
