Calendar for January 17 Saint Evstatius of Serbia
He was born in the Budimljan parish. As a young man, he became a monk on the Miholjska isthmus (near Tivat). With two monks, he traveled to the Holy Land, where he spent a long time visiting holy places and local ascetics. On the way back, he stopped at the Hilandar monastery, where he stayed. With his asceticism and intelligence, he soon became famous throughout the Holy Mountain, and the Council of the Holy Mountain appointed him abbot of Hilandar. Against his will, he was elected bishop of the Zeta diocese, whose seat was on the Miholjska isthmus, and after the death of Archbishop Joanikije, during the reign of King Milutin, he was elected archbishop of Serbia. He governed the Serbian Church from 1279 to 1286, when he peacefully passed away. His relics rest in the Patriarchate of Pec.
The Council of the Seventy Apostles. The Eunuch of Empress Candace. The Venerable Martyr Onuphrius of Chilandric.
