Calendar for January 18 Venerable Mother Synclitikija – Cross Day

Originally from Macedonia. As a rich and respectable girl, she had many suitors, but she rejected them all and fled to a monastery. In the greatest abstinence, vigilance and prayer, she lived to the age of 80. Her teachings to nuns have always been considered spiritually enlightening, because she did not come to high wisdom through books, but through suffering, torment, day and night reflection and spiritual communion with the higher divine world. She moved her soul to that world in 350. Saint Synclitikija said: “If it is time for fasting, do not cancel it because of illness, because, behold, those who do not fast fall into the same diseases.” She also said: “Just as a treasure discovered is quickly plundered, so virtue, when proclaimed, is obscured and lost.”

Epiphany

The Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates Epiphany as a memory of the first Christians who accepted the faith at the very beginning of Christian preaching. The holiday is associated with the Epiphany and baptism of Jesus Christ, as well as the day dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, who baptized Him in the Jordan River. Epiphany is always celebrated on the eve of Epiphany and is one of the immovable holidays. It is not marked in red on the calendar, unlike Epiphany, which we celebrate on September 27 as a memory of the finding of the Holy Cross on which the Lord was crucified. On this day, the rite of water blessing is also performed in churches.

Saint Theopemtus and Theona. Saint Prophet Micah I. Venerable Apollinaria. Evening of Epiphany.
