Calendar for January 5 Venerable Naum of Ohrid - Tucindan - Fathers
One of the Pentateuch, disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius. He traveled with Saint Clement to Rome, where he became famous for his miracle-working and learning. He spoke many languages. Returning from Rome, the two settled on the shores of Lake Ohrid. Saint Kliment became a bishop in Ohrid, and Saint Naum founded a monastery on the southern shore of the Lake. A multitude of monks gathered around Saint Naum, from all over the Balkans. He was a wonderful ascetic, a wise teacher, a miracle worker and a spiritual man. He translated the Holy Scriptures and other liturgical books from Greek into the Slavic language. He performed miracles during his lifetime. His miraculous relics are still visited by many sick people, especially the mentally ill. He died in the first half of the 10th century.
