Calendar for July 20 - Holy Martyr Sunday
Her old, rich and pious, but childless parents, Dorotheus and Eusevia, who lived in Anatolia at the time of Emperors Diocletian and Maximian, begged her from God. Since childhood, she dedicated herself to the Lord. When she grew into a beautiful girl, many suitors sought her out, but she rejected them all. One of them accused her and her parents to Diocletian of being Christians. Dorotheus and Eusevia died in agony in Melitina, and on Holy Sunday Diocletian sent Maximian to court. First they whipped her with oxen, then they threw her into the fire, and then to the beasts, but the Lord saved her. In the end, she was sentenced to be cut down, but she surrendered her soul to God before the sword came down on her neck. She died in 289 in Nicomedia.
