Calendar for July 8 - Holy Reverend Martyr Fevronia
Daughter of Senator Prosphorus of Rome. To avoid marriage, she became a nun in the Assyrian country, where her aunt Vriena was abbess. Diocletian sent Lysimachus and his uncle Selina to the East to kill the Christians. That's how they came to the city of Sivapolj, where there was a monastery with 50 virgins, including Fevronia. Hearing that he was there, Selina ordered that she be brought to him. When the holy virgin did not want to renounce Christ, they whipped her, broke her teeth, cut off her arms, chest and legs and finally cut her. An evil spirit entered Selin and, confused, he hit his head on a pillar and remained dead there. And Lysimachus, with many soldiers, is baptized. Saint Fevronia suffered in 310. The miraculous relics were later transferred to Constantinople.
Venerable Dionysius. St. Peter's Day fast.
