Calendar for June 15 - Holy priest-martyr Erasmus of Ohrid
A native of Antioch. He lived in the time of emperors Diocletian and Maximian. He did ascetics on Mount Lebanon and God endowed him with miracle-working. He arrived in Ohrid as an archbishop, preaching the Gospel. There, he resurrected the son of a certain Anastas with a prayer. At the same time, he baptized many other heathens and destroyed idol altars. They accused him to Emperor Maximian, who brought him before the copper statue of Zeus and forced him to bow down to it. With the prayer of St. Erasmus, a dragon came out of the statue, which he then, also with a prayer, killed. Seeing this, 20,000 souls are baptized. The emperor ordered them all to be killed, and Erasmus was thrown into a dungeon from where an angel led him out. He died around 303. Near Ohrid, there is still a cave with a small church of St. Erasmus.
