Calendar for June 2nd - Holy Martyr Talaleus

A native of Lebanon, father Veruccio and mother Romilia, a young man of eighteen years old, beautiful in appearance and age in body, red-yellow hair. Doctor by profession. Martyrdom for Christ during the reign of Numerian. When he boldly confessed his faith in Christ the Lord before the torturer judge, he ordered the two executioners, Alexander and Asterius, to pierce his knees with a drill, thread a rope through the pierced bones and hang him from a tree. But the executioners seemed to be deprived of their sight by an invisible force of God, and instead of Talalei they twisted a plank and hung it on a tree. When the torturer finds out about this, he thinks that the executioners did it on purpose, so he orders them to be whipped. Then Alexander and Asterius shouted in the middle of the fire: "Our Lord lives, from now on we too become Christians, we believe in Christ, and we suffer for Him!" Hearing this, the torturer ordered and cut them down with his sword. Then the torturer took a drill to twist Talalei's knees himself, but his hands were seized, and he had to beg Talalei to save him, which the innocent martyr of Christ did with the help of prayer. Then he would be thrown into the water, but he appeared before the torturer alive. (Because Talalei prayed to God in himself, not to die immediately, but to prolong his torment). When he was thrown before the beasts, the beasts licked his feet and cuddled around him. Finally, he was cut with a sword and moved to eternal life in 284.

Venerable Stefan Piperski. Holy Martyr Ascalon.
