Calendar for March 20 The Holy 7 Hieromartyrs of Cherson
Basil, Ephraim, Eugenius, Elpidius, Agathodorus, Etherius and Capito. All were bishops in Cherson at different times. Basil resurrected the son of a prince and dragged him by the legs through the streets until he died. Ephraim was cut down with a sword. Eugenius, Elpidius and Agathodorus were killed with sticks and stones. Etherius lived peacefully during the time of Constantine the Great. The wild Scythians asked Capito for a sign so that they would believe in Christ. With an omophorion on him and God in his mind and heart, having crossed himself, Capito entered the fire, remained in it for about an hour, and came out unharmed. Everyone shouted: “There is one God” and the entire city and the surrounding area were baptized. This miracle was much talked about at the Council of Nicaea. The Scythians drowned Capito in the Dnieper. They all suffered at the beginning of the 4th century.
