
Calendar for March 24 - Saint Sophronius of Jerusalem
Born in Damascus of famous parents. Having studied world sciences, he went to collect spiritual wisdom. In the monastery of Saint Theodosius, he was accepted as a student by the monk Jovan Mosha, with whom he went to visit ascetics and monasteries in Egypt. They published everything they wrote down in two books under the name "Limonar". Then they went to Rome where John rested. Sophronius returned to Jerusalem, where he attended the return of the Holy Cross from Persia. He was elected Patriarch of Jerusalem in 634. He condemned the Monothelite heresy at his council in Jerusalem before it was condemned at the VI Ecumenical Council. He wrote the life of St. Mary of Egypt, composed the act of the great water consecration... Rest in the Lord in 644.
