Calendar for March 25 - Venerable Simeon the New Theologian
Born in Galata Paphlagonia, and raised in Constantinople, where he was included in the courtiers of emperors Basil and Constantine Porphyrogeni. For Christ's sake, he left all worldly fame and retired to a monastery. He undertook asceticism under the spiritual guidance of the elder Simeon, then he was the abbot of the monastery of Saint Mamanta and, finally, a hermit. He is considered the greatest theologian after Saint Gregory the Theologian. He felt God's grace in his heart. His words were real spiritual and theological revelations. On the day of his repose, he received communion with the pure Holy Mysteries of Christ, ordered his disciples to sing funeral songs, prayed briefly and - left his body. He surrendered his soul to the Lord in 1032. His relics are incorruptible and miraculous.
