Calendar for May 27 - Holy Martyr Isidore
From the island of Chios. Ever since he was a child, he spent his days and nights in fasting and prayer. In the time of Emperor Decius, he was forcibly taken into the army. When they found out that he was a Christian, they brought him before the duke who advised him to renounce Christ and sacrifice to idols. When he flatly refused, the duke ordered that he be beaten with oxen. Then they cut out his tongue. But even without language, by the Spirit of God, Isidore confessed Christ. God's punishment soon came to the Duke - he suddenly became speechless. Unable to speak, the duke signaled to the soldiers to cut down Isidore, who rejoiced at this and joyfully went to the slaughterhouse. His head was cut off in 251. His body was buried by his friend Ammonius, who himself suffered as a result.
Venerable Serapion Syndonite. Holy Martyr Maximus. Blessed Isidor Jurodivi.
