Calendar for May 29 - Venerable Theodore the Consecrated
A disciple of Saint Pachomius. He was born and raised as a heathen, but as a young man he came to know the true faith, was baptized, and hearing about Saint Pachomius, reached this monastery secretly from his parents. Saint Pachomius made him a monk and loved him because of his unusual zeal and obedience. When his mother came to call him back home, he didn't even want to answer his mother, but he prayed to God for her, so that God would enlighten her with the truth. And indeed, the mother not only does not return her son home, but she herself does not return. Seeing a women's monastery not far away, which was managed by Sister Pahomijeva, she entered it and became a monk. After some time, Theodore's brother, Paphnutius, also came to the monastery, and he also became a monk. It happened once that the bishop of the city of Panopolje invited Saint Pachomius to build a monastery for many who wanted a monastic life. Pachomius took Theodore with him, and entrusted him with the main task of establishing the monastery. After the death of Saint Pachomius, Theodore became the abbot of all Pachomius' monasteries, and he lived until a very old age, pleasing God, leading a multitude of monks on the path of salvation. He passed away peacefully and moved to the realm of eternal light in 368.
