Calendar for November 28 Holy Martyrs Gurias, Samon and Aviv - Beginning of Lent
Gurias and Samon did not want to deny Christ during the persecution under Licinius, they were tortured and beheaded. Aviv was a deacon of Edessa. He was burned to death. They suffered for Christ in Edessa in 322. Christians later built a temple dedicated to these three martyrs and placed their miraculous relics in a coffin. A soldier, a Goth, deceived a widow in Edessa that he was not married and she gave him her daughter as a wife. When he returned to his homeland, he kept this girl next to his lawful wife as a slave, and when his wife died, he buried the slave girl alive with her. She prayed to the three martyrs to save her, and buried alive, she was immediately transported to Edessa, where she was found in the morning in a locked church, next to their grave.
