Calendar for October 7 Holy First Martyr Thekla
Born in Iconia, of pagan parents. When she was 18, she was engaged. Then the apostle Paul came to Iconium with Barnabas. Listening to the Apostle for three days, he converted to Christ's faith and vowed to live in virginity. The mother handed her over to the judge to throw her into the fire, but God preserved her unharmed. In Antioch, the city elder accused her of being a Christian because she refused him. The prince throws her to the beasts, but they don't like her either, so, amazed, he lets her go. She traveled near Seleucia, healed the sick and converted many to Christ. Doctors and sorcerers from Seleucia sent some young men to defile her. Fleeing before them, the old woman Thekla came to the rock, prayed to God, and it opened. That rock was both her hiding place and her grave.
Venerable Simon (Stefan Prvovenčani). Saint Vladislav, the king. Venerable David (Dimitrije Nemanjić, prince).
