Condolences from Patriarch Bartholomew
Your Eminence, Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral G. Joanikije, our beloved brother and co-celebrator in the Holy Spirit, may grace and peace be with you
It is with a sad heart that we write to Your Eminence, having heard of the tragic mass murder that occurred in Cetinje, Montenegro, and which has brought sorrow and grief to many innocent families. This heinous and inexplicable act of violence, which claimed at least 12 precious lives, including two children, reminds us of the fragile nature of peace in our world and is a reminder of the need for all people of good will to work tirelessly to promote mutual understanding, respect and harmonious coexistence.
In the name of the Mother Church of Constantinople, we express our deepest condolences to Your Eminence and all the faithful of your God-saved Metropolis. We share in your grief and pray fervently for the eternal repose of the souls of those who have passed away, for the healing of the wounded and for the consolation of the bereaved. May the Lord of mercy and peace strengthen and sustain you in the service of your flock in these troubled times.
Also on this occasion, we would like to thank You from the bottom of our hearts for the exceptional Panagia, which was presented to us through His Eminence, Bishop Ambrose. This sign of attention, love and respect is a source of great joy and support for Us, which reaffirms our fraternal ties that unite us in the mission of our Holy Orthodox Church and the service of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
In the days when we celebrate the radiant feast of the Nativity of Christ, we convey to Your Eminence our warmest wishes on the occasion of the feast of the Nativity of Christ, as well as a joyful and fruitful New Year. May the divine light of Bethlehem illuminate your path and inspire your service, bringing hope, peace and renewal to all citizens of Montenegro and beyond.
