Exhibition "Famous Serbian Mothers" by academic sculptor Đorđe Zečević opened in Tivat
Last night, the exhibition "Notable Serbian Mothers" by the academic sculptor Đorđe Zečević was officially opened at the Tivat Museum and Gallery.
The exhibition was opened by the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, Mr. Joanikije speaking about the importance of Serbian mothers who throughout history were the pillars of the family and the nation, raising heroes and martyrs who fought for freedom and justice. Their love and commitment were not only manifested through taking care of children, but also through the preservation of faith, tradition and national identity, says the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, emphasizing that Serbian mothers were not only biological mothers; they were also spiritual leaders, who guided the generations with their example and faith.
At the opening of the "Famous Serbian Mothers" exhibition, which shows the magnificent reliefs of the academic sculptor Đorđe Zečević, the director of the JU Museum and Gallery Tivat, Danijela Đukić, addressed the audience. In her speech, she emphasized the key role of women as the central figure in the family and society, stressing the importance of preserving traditional values through motherhood.
"The exhibition Famous Serbian Mothers by the academic sculptor Đorđe Zečević presents 17 magnificent reliefs, which revive the traditional values of women and mothers. The mother, as a central figure in the family and society, occupies a special place in ethnographic studies. Her role, relationship and impact on culture and society are the subject of intensive research in various ethnographic contexts, and they help us understand how the roles and values associated with motherhood have changed over time and space. Throughout history, mothers have been indispensable in preserving tradition. They were the first teachers for their children, passing on folk tales, songs, customs and beliefs. It is thanks to mothers that many traditions survived and today are an integral part of our cultural heritage. They were the links between the past and the future, preserving the memory of our ancestors and passing it on to new generations. At a time when traditional values are often questioned, this exhibition is a reminder of their importance. Mothers are the ones who instill in us love, compassion and moral values. They are the first teachers and biggest supporters. A mother is a multifaceted role, she is the daughter of her parents, the wife of her husband and the sister of her brothers and sisters. In each of these roles, she carries with her the tradition of values that have been passed down. As a daughter, she continued the family line and preserved the family customs. As a woman, she created her home and passed on the tradition to her children. As a sister, she was supportive of her siblings and together they kept the family together. They are a source of strength and sacrifice, and the roles of mothers are complex and dynamic. Although the forms of the cult change over time, the fundamental idea of the mother as a symbol of love, protection of life remains a universal and frequent theme in art, literature and music. The side of Kotor was built by sailors, maritime merchants, and the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, is the protector of sailors, while a large number of ships are named after her. In Her they looked for comfort, salvation from trouble, faith, expressed gratitude for deliverance from many troubles. Each relief carries a certain story, strength and heritage that it conveys. On behalf of everyone present, I thank the academic painter Đorđe Zečević for this exceptional piece of art and I believe that this exhibition will leave a deep mark on all of us and remind us of the importance of motherhood and the feminine principle", said the director of the Tivat Museum and Gallery, Danijela Đukić.
The author of the exhibition, Đorđe Zečević, reflected on the inspiration that prompted him to create these works, emphasizing that the creation process lasted five to six years.
"These works have been created for the past five, six years, and everything started quite by accident. One day, entering the house, I saw my daughter, who was 8-9 years old at the time, watching very carefully the show dedicated to Milunka Savić. When the show ended, my daughter asked me why you didn't name me Milunka. That childish desire to identify with such a personality encouraged me to really think deeply about what we are and who we are. A mother is not only the one who gave you life, but the one who clothed you with honor and honesty, took care of you, and put your interests before her own. She is the one who doesn't sleep when you have a fever, who is ready to sacrifice herself for the love of you."
In the musical part of the program, the church mixed choir "Holy Martyrs of Prevlač" from Tivat performed.
