GREAT CHRISTMAS EVE EVENING IN KOTOR WITH TRADITIONAL LAYING OF CHRISTMAS EVE IN THE SQUARE IN FRONT OF THE CHURCHES OF ST. NICHOLAS AND ST. LUKE
The Great Christmas Eve Evening in Kotor, on the square in front of the churches of St. Nicholas and St. Luke, was once again accompanied by the traditional laying of Christmas trees from Grblje, Orahovac and other parts of the Kotor municipality.
On the city waterfront, the people of Grblje and Orahovac were welcomed by the Archbishop of Kotor and Tivat, the parish priest of Kotor, Archpriest-Staurophorus Nemanja Krivokapić and the clergy with the words "good evening and good health on Christmas Eve", and then the scent of incense spread through the streets and squares of the Old Town, where the procession with the clergy and the faithful passed to the Church of St. Nicholas, whose bells glorified the Infant Jesus.
The parish priest of Orahovac-Perast, Jovan Vasić, in his address to the faithful in the Church of St. Nicholas, asked where the heart of today's man is.
"Is the Infant Jesus Christ in our hearts? If so, then our heart will be the warmth of His love, the warmth of His humility, it will be the warmth of eternal, imperishable hope in Him. If He is in our hearts, we will love our neighbor, and according to His words, we will have the strength to carry the cross and our enemies... If Christ is in my and your heart, in our homes there will be peace, blessing, strength, there will be hope, there will be a readiness to do every day what will be for our eternal salvation," said Fr. Jovan.
He wished that Christ would shine in our hearts this night, which are trapped in sin and suffering in this world.
“So that goodness would be resurrected, so that meaning would be resurrected, so that understanding and generosity would be resurrected… So that we would hear our neighbor, so that we would be ready for the Infant Christ to shine in our hearts, so that this Christmas tree that we have placed will be a symbol of His light and warmth, and then we will truly, having brought Christ into our being, help our neighbor as well,” said, among other things, Fr. Jovan, ending with the words that the cave in which He is born be the cave of our hearts, so that we can always say, Peace of God, Christ is born.
The Great Vespers on Christmas Eve was accompanied by the singing of the SPD “Jedinstvo” choir.
