In honor of the school year at the Saint Sava Seminary in Belgrade - Patriarch Porfirije: The seminary is like a gift

On the occasion of the beginning of the new school year at the Theological Seminary of St. Sava in Belgrade, His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia G. Porfirije served the archbishop's Liturgy, in the chapel of St. Sava, on September 2, 2024.

Patriarch Porfirije served the Holy Liturgy, and Bishop G. Sava of Marcha, Archimandrite Nektarije (Đurić) and the clergy, with the prayerful presence of students and professors of the seminary, led by the rector protocon Radomir Vrućinić, concelebrated.

In his welcoming address, Patriarch Porphyry said that, according to the words of St. Gregory the Theologian, theology is a science above all sciences: "Why? Because it is about God. And not everyone can talk about that. Theology is not a fruit, it is not a product, it is not the result of our intellectual, rational efforts. Theology is a gift, what God reveals and gives to us. First of all, God reveals himself in various ways. First of all, he reveals creation. The one who observes creation, as the apostle Paul says, can have an opinion about God and draw some conclusions about God. Each of us has a built-in conscience, that is, the ability to distinguish between good and evil. Following the trail of that conscience, one can recognize that the conscience is not by itself, but that someone has built it into us. "On the basis of the moral law that every person carries within himself, one can conclude about God," said Patriarch Porphyry.

The Holy Liturgy ended with the invocation of the Light of the Spirit for a successful and God-blessed school year.

After the Liturgy, the area of the renovated boarding school as well as the museum area was announced.
