IN THE MEETING OF THE HOLY FAST - FATHER NEMANJA KRIVOKAPIC: THROUGH COMMUNITY WITH OTHER PEOPLE WE GO TOWARDS SALVATION

At today's Holy Liturgy in the Church of St. Nicholas in the Old Town, the Gospel of the Last Judgment (the Second Coming of the Lord) (Matthew 25:31-46; Zach. 106) was read.
The sermon was delivered by the hierarchal vicar of Kotor-Tivat, the parish priest of Kotor, Archpriest-Stauburphor Nemanja Krivokapić, who said at the beginning that the topic that the Church recommends to us seven days before the Holy Fast is the Last Judgment and the Second Coming of Christ, that is, what a Christian should think about every day.
"The first coming of Christ was for the salvation of us humans, and the second, which will certainly happen, since Christ himself announces it, will be the final judgment. When that judgment will happen, today, tomorrow, in a thousand years, is not a topic for us Christians. We do not know when it will happen, but everything is so that we can be ready and prepared every day for that second coming," says Father Nemanja, adding that it is important that all of this will happen precisely because God himself said so and that we should think about what we will answer at the Last Judgment.
The judgment will be terrible for those who are not ready to give a good answer, but for true Christians it is not, but represents an encounter with the Lord in the Kingdom of God.
"The entire Holy Scripture is filled with anticipation of that event. How does the last sentence of the Bible, the Holy Scripture, end? "Come, Lord." This is how an Orthodox Christian thinks. He can hardly wait for the Lord to come. What we need to think about is what we will say at the Judgment, what works we will show, and how we will hear those words from today's Gospel: "Come, blessed ones, receive the Kingdom prepared for you." These words should be constantly in our heads to be our guiding star. God forbid that the One who created us should say those other words to us: "Depart from me, cursed ones," continues Fr. Nemanja.
He also emphasizes that what we should do is taught by the Gospel, which indicates the true faith, but not just any faith, but the kind that the Church has left us.
"Just as Saint Peter confessed, "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God," so Christ praised him because he correctly confessed the faith on which he would build the Church. From the Gospel we learn to pray, to repent, and from many that we should receive communion, that Christ, the God who created us, himself said, “Take, eat this is my body, drink from it this is my blood,” said Fr. Nemanja.
He emphasizes that today’s Gospel teaches us what our relationship should be towards other people, and therefore our relationship towards God.
“The two greatest commandments, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and Love your neighbor,” are the measure of our life here on earth,” says Fr. Nemanja and explains that we show love for God by our relationship with our neighbors, towards those who are next to us, and our neighbor is every person.
“The Lord says, “When you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me.” So, God identifies with us, people. He does not say “if you were good to me, I will do the same to you”, but “when you do it to a man, you did it to me”. God asks us for communion with other people. There is no individual salvation through, I will be good, I will read prayers… No, God asks for a concrete relationship between us. He asks for joint prayer”, said Father Nemanja, recalling the importance of coming to Church and the words of God “When two or three are gathered in My name, I am in the midst of them”.
He also adds that the word Church, Ekklisia, means community, and the Liturgy is a joint work.
“The priest serves, the deacon helps, the choir sings, you all respond, you pray. That is the Liturgy, a joint work and what God wants. The relationship between us people. In this way, the love that is necessary for God is manifested, through communion with other people, and this is what today's Gospel teaches us, what we need to think about in order to gain salvation, amen," said Fr. Nemanja.

Matthew 25:31-46; Deut. 106 - The Gospel of the Last Judgment (the second coming of the Lord)

31. And when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32. And all the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33. And he will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35. For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you welcomed me; 36. Naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me. 37. Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38. When did we see you a stranger and welcome you? Or naked and clothe you? 39. When did we see you sick or in prison and come to you? 40. And the King will answer them, saying, ‘Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ 41. Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42. For I was hungry and you did not give me food; I was thirsty and you did not give me drink; 43. I was a stranger, and you did not welcome me; naked, and you did not clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit me. 44. Then they also will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45. Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46. And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
