On Easter Monday and the feast of Saint George the Great Martyr and Victor, His Eminence Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral, worshiped in the church dedicated to this beloved of God in Njeguši, with the concurrence of the clergy and clergy of the Metropolis of Montenegro and the Littoral and the Finnish Orthodox Church.
In his festive sermon, the Metropolitan said that the Lord, through his Resurrection, victory over death, made us people participants in His victory, Resurrection and eternal glory. "We especially see this in the Holy God-pleasing ones who deserved the immortal glory of God because of their suffering and because they pleased God here on earth with their lives, such as the Great Martyr and the Victorious George", said the Bishop and emphasized that he is for faith Orthodox, for the Church of God, for Christians, he suffered and by his suffering conformed to the suffering of Christ, the Cross of Christ, and the Lord also honored him with such grace to be our representative before the throne of God, to come down to us on earth and to help us and guide us and points to the path of God through all the suffering, adversity and all the difficulties in our lives.
"The Church of God glorifies him as a great martyr, which is quite a rare epithet. There are many holy martyrs, and the epithet of great martyrs was borne by those who were pleasing to God, who led many to the path of God with their lives, and especially through their suffering, and guided them to the path of Christ", said the Bishop, adding that it is known for the Holy Great Martyr George that during his suffering , and certainly even before, converted many heathens and pagans to the faith of Christ, and among them was the wife of Emperor Diocletian Alexander. The Bishop said that there is a great history about his suffering, but there is an even greater history about his gracious intercession.
"Here in this small place, Saint George the Victorious is a representative for centuries, he is a representative of the ruling and bishop line of Petrović, but also of many others who celebrate here, and we can say, considering the role of the house of Petrović and how much they respected Saint George, The Holy Orthodox faith and how much they gave for it, led by Saint George, that this is also the homeland of the Holy Great Martyr and Victorious George, that he identified with our ancestors who lived here and witnessed the faith", stressed Metropolitan Joanikije, congratulating the house of Petrović and to everyone celebrating today.
After the prayer, Metropolitan Joanikije broke the cake and blessed the cradle in honor of Saint George, the glory of this temple, and then the cake was blessed, consecrated and broken in Njegoš's birth house, on the occasion of the baptism of the Petrović Njegoš family.
