In the Cathedral of the Holy Transfiguration in Trebinje on the occasion of the baptismal glory of this temple and the city of Trebinje, the Most Reverend Archbishop of Cetinje, Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral and Exarch of the Holy Throne of Peć Joanikije, Archbishop and Metropolitan Atanasije of Mileševski and Archbishop of Mostar-Trebinje Metropolitan of Zahum served the Holy Hierarchical Liturgy - Dimitrije from Herzegovina and Ston-Limitor.

"The Transfiguration of the Lord is a holiday of God's light and love, and everyone should make an effort to make their deeds especially bright, in order to be true Christians," said His Eminence Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Coast after the Liturgy.

In his sermon to numerous believers, the Metropolitan wished everyone to open their hearts and be filled with God's grace, which is given to everyone by today's feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord.

We should enrich our whole life with today's light. We should be careful with our words and thoughts", said the reverend bishop. Metropolitan Joanikije congratulated the mayor of Trebinje, Mirko Ćurić, as well as all the citizens, and wished that light would enter their hearts.

Metropolitan Dimitrije congratulated the people of Trebinje on the holiday and wished that the Transfiguration of the Lord be celebrated more and more every year with a larger number of believers and guests. He thanked the numerous guests who came to Trebinje to celebrate this great holiday together with the people and clergy.

Metropolitan Athanasius told the faithful that the Transfiguration took place 2,000 years ago, but that this event is still relevant today and always will be.

"Christ is the light in the darkness in which we live. This is an opportunity to ask ourselves where we stand, what we are doing. Let's take a look. If we have the garments of sin, we will be impervious to the light. We know that nothing else rejected Adam from the closeness of God than the fact that he was not adequately clothed, so that we look not only at the clothes, but also at the light of Christ. So that we don't experience hellish torture because of that inadequacy, but that we all look at our position and start from there", says Metropolitan Athanasius and adds that all of us who celebrate the Transfiguration of the Lord are properly oriented and that we will continue to learn from the experience of the saints.

He expressed the hope that the light will penetrate into our being, no matter how many obstacles there were on this path.

After the service, the celebratory cake was broken and grapes were consecrated.

After the prayer ceremony, Mayor Ćurić and other officials laid flowers on the Monument to the Defenders of Trebinje from 1991 to 1996.

As part of the "Transfiguration festivities" tonight, at 8:00 p.m. in the Cathedral, festive vespers will be served, followed by a solemn litany through the streets of the city.

The "Transfiguration festivities" end with a concert by Peđa Jovanović on Freedom Square at 9:40 p.m.

The ceremony, which was preceded by the Holy Bishop's Liturgy, was attended by a large number of faithful people, as well as bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the leadership of the City of Trebinje and numerous guests from friendly cities from abroad.

The celebration cake was broken together by Metropolitan Joanikije, Metropolitan Atanasije of Milesev, Metropolitan Dimitrije and the mayor of Trebinje, Mirko Ćurić.
