Metropolitan Joanikije on the occasion of Njegoš's Day in Matica Srpska: Merits of Njegoš and Ljetopis for the enlightenment and unification of our people

Today in Novi Sad, Njegoš Day is being celebrated and on the occasion of two centuries of the Chronicle of this most important Serbian institution of culture and literature. The Annals of Matica Srpske is one of the oldest literary magazines in this region, which has been published since 1824.

In the ceremonial hall of Matica Srpska, the attendees were first addressed by the vice-president of the Njegoš board, academician Miro Vuksanović, who said that this year marks the two hundredth anniversary of the first issue of the Matica Srpska yearbook, which is a unique jubilee in Serbian science and culture and beyond: "This year It's been 190 years since the first text about Njegoš's literary work was published in Letopis. It was the seed from which the branch of science called Neurosciology developed. It was natural to dedicate the day of Matica Srpska to the relationship between Njegoš and Letopis", said Academician Vuksanović.

The audience was then addressed by the president of Njegoš's board, His Eminence the Archbishop of Cetinje and the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, Mr. Joannikius. In his address, he said that if we think a little more deeply about Njegoš and his merits as well as the merits of the Annals of Matica Srpska for these two hundred years, then we see a continuous permeation:

"For the enlightenment of the Serbian people, for their unification, for their cultural elevation and gathering of our forces, so that we can be spiritually as strong as possible, as well-grounded as possible." To build both our present and our future on a solid and reliable foundation. It is a great honor for me to have the opportunity to greet you on the occasion of this jubilee.

This is a solemn and sacred moment of our togetherness in what binds us, ennobles us and what gives us strength, and these are the great merits of our predecessors and cultural creators who entrusted us with their work and left us a legacy to use all our forces for the glory of God. , for the good and salvation of the Serbian race", Bishop Joanikije said, after which the scientific meeting was opened.

Goran Maksimović then presented his work to those present, and members and secretaries of Njegoš's committee are scheduled to present their work later.
