Metropolitan Joanikije visits the construction site of the Orthodox Gymnasium and the Church of Saint Sava in Podgorica
His Eminence Archbishop of Cetinje, Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Joanikije, accompanied by Archpriest-Staurophor Dalibor Milaković, visited the construction site of the Orthodox Gymnasium and the Church of Saint Sava in Podgorica on December 26, 2024. On that occasion, he was welcomed by the founder of this significant project, Risto Drekalović, with engineers, artists and workers engaged in the execution of the works.
In the crypt of the church, which is dedicated to the feast of the Holy Three Hierarchs, fresco painting has begun, which represents one of the most important artistic segments in the construction of the church. The frescoes were entrusted to a team of experts led by prof. Dr. Oliver Tomić and the famous fresco painter Vladislav Juškov, who will make every effort to give this sacred space an authentic appearance in accordance with the Orthodox tradition of fresco painting.
The Metropolitan also visited the works at the Orthodox Gymnasium, the first high school of its type in Montenegro. The school is currently undergoing intensive work on the exterior facade, which will give the building its final appearance. All rough installations, including electrical and plumbing systems, have been completed, and plastering work is currently underway inside the building.
The Metropolitan expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far and praised the efforts of everyone involved in this major project.
He emphasized the importance of the church and the gymnasium as spiritual and educational pillars for the Orthodox community in Podgorica, but also in the entire Montenegro.
