Morača Monastery: Bishop's liturgy on the occasion of 450 years of restoration of the monastery and frescoes

On Sunday, October 20, the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Metropolitanate of Montenegrin-Primorska, the Administration of the Morača Monastery, is organizing a celebration on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the restoration of the monastery and the frescoes.
The holy liturgy of the bishops will be served by several bishops of our local Church, as well as of other Orthodox churches, starting at 9 am.
In the continuation of the gathering, there will be a rich cultural and artistic program and a feast of love.
Blessed Metropolitan Amfilohije, who throughout his life carried in his heart memories of his childhood and growing up at the Morača monastery and his days as a student at the monastery school, said that Morača is one of the most important medieval holy sites: It continuously gathers together times and centuries, history, the national soul, it is a testimony of what we were and what we offered to God as a gift throughout the ages and what we will leave for future generations. Although he went through many crucifixions, he remained indestructible and indelible thanks to the presence of God's power.
Moraču Monastery was built in 1251/1252. summer of the Lord Prince Stefan, son of Vukanov, and grandson of Stefan Nemanja, founder of the Serbian medieval dynasty. Soon, around 1260, the church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was colorfully painted.
The tradition has been preserved that this holy temple was illuminated with light even before it was built, when Prince Stefan Nemanjić once saw that the light of heaven fell at night and that candles were lit on a pear stump in a lush meadow. He recognized God's sign in that and, inspired by the Holy Spirit, he began to build his endowment there, on the banks of the Morača. He finished and decorated it in time, and in the place where the light fell, where the tree stump was, the holy table of the temple was placed.
