A discussion forum on the restoration of the Catholicon of the Prevlaka Monastery-possibilities, limitations and directions, ended today the Scientific Conference "Monastery of the Holy Archangel Michael on Prevlaka and the Metropolitanate of Zeta".

At the end of the meeting, His Eminence the Archbishop of Cetinje, the Metropolitan of the Montenegrin Littoral, thanked all its participants for their contribution to clarifying the history, importance and heritage of the Monastery.

Metropolitan Ioannikije reminded that throughout its history the monastery was destroyed three times and rebuilt twice, and that the time has come for its third restoration, because it is a holy place that has life and effect and that still attracts.

He pointed out that our Orthodox people have not forgotten this holy place, which never changed its purpose, not even during the communist era.

"It cries out for a restoration that would be in accordance with the will of the original founders and in accordance with our faith," the Metropolitan stressed, stating that there is almost no shrine that has not been restored several times, nor an old painting, without several layers

"This indicates that it is in the spirit of our holy faith that we as people, as intelligent beings, need to renew ourselves constantly, and we renew ourselves with God's grace and grace, and this is transferred to all of our lives," said the Bishop. .

Given that over 90 percent of worship services are held in the open air on Prevlaka, and a large number of believers are present, Metropolitan Joanikij appealed to the authorities to be sensitive to the needs of the faithful and the local community, because "where the sanctuary is restored, everything around it is restored ."

About fifty scientists from various fields participated in the scientific gathering: theology, history, history of art, philology, church art, archeology, architecture, law...

The gathering was organized by the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral and the Institute for Art History of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade, with the support of the Directorate for Cooperation with Religious Communities of the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro and the Municipality of Tivat.
